Global Thunder Bay was first launched in February of 2010 as a proud part of the Global Television Network.  Owned and operated by Dougall Media, a long-standing family-owned company in Northwestern Ontario, we essentially carry “the Global lineup,” including the entire primetime and weekday schedules, and the vast majority of late night and weekend fringe.  We ARE the Global station for Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario viewers!

Dougall Media has a rich history in the area, and is famously the sole remaining locally-owned twinstick in English Canada.   With two TV stations, four radio stations, a community newspaper, as well as a local news website, it can’t be overstated that Dougall Media – including Global Thunder Bay – connects the city and all of Northwestern Ontario to the best in entertainment, news and local programming.

CHFD-TV (branded as Global Thunder Bay), first went on the air in 1972 as a CTV affiliate.  Its sister station – Thunder Bay Television CKPR – signed on back in 1954 (as CFPA-TV then CFCJ) and is still an affiliate of the CBC.

We broadcast local news, weather and sports seven days a week across both stations.  See the “Local News” section for details.  And, to further nurture a strong local flavour, we produce “Around Town” weeknights, a short, hosted interview program where community groups spread the word on their events and what their organizations are all about.  We also produce several short features hosted by on-air talent which offer news, often local, from the world of sports, entertainment, weather, community events… even pet adoptions!

Both stations are available on Shaw Cable and TBayTel TV in Thunder Bay and around the region.  CHFD and CKPR are also carried on Bell TV and Shaw Direct.

No matter how our viewers watch, be it via cable or satellite, they consistently turn to their local stations for news, programming and advertising that not only reflects their community, but connects them to the rest of the nation and beyond.
