The goal of this campaign was to encourage BC residents to vacation within their own province, inspire pride in their communities and continue the momentum established by the 2010 Olympic Games.

Promotional Dates: June 28-September 5, 2010

Overview:

Tourism BC partnered with Global BC to deliver their message through multiple touch points; brand campaign, news content with travel expert Claire Newell, contesting through the “Small Town BC” feature in Morning News, hosted Micro site and newspaper tie-in.

Highlights:

All the touch points ran simultaneously to capture the attention of British Columbia. Claire Newell, Global TV’s Travel Expert, highlighted the regions over 6 weeks, focusing on a different region each week in Morning News. In addition, Claire Newell wrote a full page advertorial highlighting each region that ran in both the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers. The 30-second contest message, hosted by Global’s Meteorologist Kristi Gordon, aired throughout the Global schedule encouraging viewers to watch her “Small Town BC” segment to see how they could enter to win 1 of 6 getaways and the Grand Prize a BBQ for your town. The contest message also drove viewers to the micro site at GlobalTVBC.com/BeHere for more information. Each weekend, Kristi Gordon spoke of the weekly prize package, highlighted that region and focused on a specific small town and asked viewers to send in their pictures. The contest was seamlessly integrated into a feature that is currently on the air.

The Overwaitea Foods group, the current sponsor of “Small Town BC” was approached and donated the Grand Prize package of a BBQ for the winner’s entire town.

Success:

The campaign was a great success with over 3,500 people turning up for the BBQ. Tourism BC was able to deliver their message in a unique way and keep residents home for the summer to explore all the natural wonders and adventures the Province has to offer.
