History


Global BuildingGlobal BC operates from studios on 7850 Enterprise Street in Burnaby and their first broadcast aired in early 1961. Since then they've expanded their operations to produce 48.5 hours of award-winning news programming each week. In the Vancouver area, CHAN-TV, branded as Global BC, can be viewed as follows:

Formerly known as BCTV, the station changed its name to Global in 2001 as part of the WIC aquisition by Canwest. In 2010 Global BC and the Global Television Network became part of Shaw Media after Canwest was acquired by Shaw Communications of Calgary.

Community


Global BC has garnered numerous awards not only for their stellar journalism but also for their achievements as an outstanding corporate citizen. Servicing the community in the Lower Mainland since 1967, Global BC participates in a wide range of community activities. The focus of Global BC is not only to inform and entertain their community, but to seek partnerships within and participate in a wide range of festivals and events.

Major charitable organizations that Global BC has supported include Variety the Children’s Charity and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. In recent years, Global BC launched the "Be A Superhero: Campaign for BC Children" fundraising initiative in conjunction with the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation to support the construction of a new Acute Care Centre. As of May 1, 2011, $167 Million of the $200 Million goal has been achieved and the campaign continues.

Global BC has partnered with other charities and organizations extending across British Columbia, building strong relationships with such organizations as Lions Society of BC, United Way of the Lower Mainland, BCSPCA, and the MS Society. Through these partnerships Global BC has supported the growth of community events and festivals throughout Greater Vancouver and our commitment to future philanthropy continues.
